ECOStudy ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME
SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
A child cannot learn about nature whilst sitting behind a school desk!
ECOStudy integrates environmental learning into the school curriculum, with a focus on key themes from the Grade 6 Natural Sciences syllabus.
Why Grade 6?
Learners aged 11 to 13 are at a critical stage of development—one where they are ready to explore complex ideas. At this age, children are beginning to develop key cognitive skills like:
-
- Abstract thinking
- Problem-solving
- Logical reasoning
This makes them eager and capable of engaging with important topics such as biodiversity conservation and global environmental challenges.
In addition to the cognitive skills of this age group, the Grade 6 Natural Sciences curriculum offers an ideal platform for introducing these concepts in a way that resonates with their growing abilities and curiosity.

The Excursions
Learners and educators are transported from their schools to Sontuli in ECOStudy buses. For many of the children, this will be their first visit to a game reserve – providing an exciting and unforgettable experience.
During the visit, the ECOStudy team accompanies the group at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the trip. Participants will stay overnight in dormitory accommodation at Sontuli, creating a fully immersive experience in the heart of nature.
While at the reserve, learners study the delicate balance of nature ecosystems and understand the threats they face, gaining valuable insight into biodiversity and environmental conservation.
In addition to their educational activities, the group also have the opportunity to go on game drives in game-viewing vehicles within the game reserve. These drives offer a rare and thrilling chance to see wildlife up close, deepening their understanding of and connection to the natural world.
